Thailand has an extensive Railway Network around the country. All the Railways start from Bangkok. The Railways are divide into 4 different lines: Northern Line, Southern Line, Eastern Line and Northeastern Line, is very easy to travel by train in many Thailand cities including Koh Samui ( via Suratthani ), Chiang Mai and Nong Khai ( Lao Border ). The Southern Line goes to Malaysia, cross all Malaysia and stop in Singapore.

The Trains in Thailand are quite comfortable and very cheap. On long distances they use to travel during the night and you can get a ticket for your seat and bed for the night. Some train has also private cabin also. There is also a service for meals. The Train personal will offer you to eat an hot Thai meal which you can order from the menu ( extra cost ).
On the train there are often policemans just for security. Infact nowadays it is safer than in the past to use the train in Thailand.

Most train has different classes and categories. You can choose an air condition vagon or just a fan vagon. Be carefull if you travel in the night and you get into an air condition vagon to bring with you some heavy clothes because the aircon it is usually too cold in the night. If you don't like air condition too much fan vagon is very fine in the night.
